Report: Why Maurizio Sarri could now help Tottenham sign Cristian Romero
Tottenham’s pursuit of Cristian Romero continues. The Argentina international and Copa America winner remains a target for Tottenham Hotspur. Now, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio suggests Maurizio Sarri could now help Spurs get Romero – by sanctioning a sale.
The report from Di Marzio states that Romero is now expected to join Tottenham in the ‘next few days’. Promising, then. Atalanta are beginning to identify replacements for Romero. A report on Friday from Fabrizio Romano claims Atalanta are eyeing Verona’s Matteo Lovato.
Now, Di Marzio says that Atalanta are also looking at Lazio’s Brazilian defender Luiz Felipe. It means that if Maurizio Sarri sanctions the sale of his £17million-rated defender, it could help Tottenham close a deal for Romero – allowing Atalanta to have his replacement already on the books.
What are the chances Sarri sanctions Felipe exit – as Tottenham eye Romero?
Well, the Lazio defender is in the final year of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico. While he is probably worth more than £17million – especially given he is just 24 years of age – bringing in that kind of figure is one that is hard to ignore. Reluctantly, Sarri might have to accept, if a bid comes in.
Romero takes Tottenham, defensively, to the next level. If Tottenham can get a deal over the line for the Copa America winner – who remains a Juventus player, technically – it ends their search for a leader at the back. Sarri could now have a decisive say in Tottenham’s Romero pursuit.
