Report: What Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg was spotted doing just seconds before Emerson Royal was sent off against Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was spotted berating Emerson Royal just seconds before the player was sent off against Arsenal on Saturday, according to Football.London

Spurs were second-best in the north London derby and fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.

Antonio Conte’s men got off to a slow start as they found themselves 1-0 down after a Thomas Partey stunner. Yet, they started to grow into the game after Harry Kane levelled the score up from the penalty spot.

But a poor start to the second-half put the game out of reach for Spurs. Firstly, Gabriel Jesus pounced on an error by captain Hugo Lloris to put his side ahead.

Then Emerson Royal made a needless challenge on Gabriel Martinelli that led to the wing-back being sent off. And it’s fair to say that Hojbjerg was not happy with his teammate.

What Hojbjerg was doing before Emerson was sent off

Spurs had Martinelli running back towards the Arsenal end and the winger was surrounded by three of Conte’s men.

But Royal put in a needless tackle that led to him being dismissed. Hojbjerg was one of the players who was blocking Martinelli’s exit and Football.London reports the midfielder showed his frustrations

The Danish international turned around to Emerson with his arms outstretched and berated the player for making the tackle.

He didn’t react as furiously as Conte though who was apparently livid with the wing-back in his technical area.

After the Brazilian’s dismissal, Spurs went on to concede the third goal as Granit Xhaka secured the three points for the Gunners.

Emerson struggled to deal with Martinelli on the day but you can see why Hojbjerg was furious with his teammate. Spurs were in no immediate danger as the ball was deep in Arsenal’s half.

The Brazilian has been handed a vote of confidence so far this season, with Conte preferring him over other options for the wing-back role in Matt Doherty and Djed Spence.

Emerson will now face a three-match ban in the Premier League after being shown a straight red on Saturday afternoon. It will be interesting to see if Conte sticks by the Brazilian in the Champions League, with Spurs set to travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday night.
