Report: West Ham want £45m defender on loan in January, Antonio could be key to signing him

West Ham United spent a significant sum in the summer, but currently sit just above the relegation zone.

David Moyes may need to dip into the transfer market in January to make sure they’re not scrapping for survival at the end of the season.

A report from Manchester Evening News suggests he may have identified his latest target.

The likes of Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta were all brought to the London Stadium for considerable fees.

A mixture of injury issues and adapting to their new environment have meant Moyes’ new signings haven’t quite made the impression he was hoping for.

Aguerd showed what he was capable of with Morocco at the World Cup, although picked up another injury in Qatar.

Scamacca has shown he’s a level above the Europa Conference League, but hasn’t found consistency in the Premier League yet.

The Brazilian Paqueta clearly has immense quality, but needs to time to get to know his new teammates.

All of these signings mean West Ham may not have too much money left in the bank in January.

Manchester Evening News believe West Ham might dip into the loan market, and want to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Manchester United defender has barely played this season, and the Hammers could offer him the perfect opportunity to get his career back on track.

West Ham want Wan-Bissaka on loan in January

It’s not the first time West Ham have been linked with a move for the £45m defender.

West Ham were hopeful of signing Wan-Bissaka in the summer, but Erik ten Hag’s side turned down their advances.

However, Wan-Bissaka has barely played at Old Trafford managing just five minutes of league action this campaign.

He wasn’t even part of the squad that travelled to Fulham before the World Cup break, despite Diogo Dalot being suspended.

Full-back Vladimir Coufal is reportedly no longer part of Moyes’ plans, and could leave the club next month.

West Ham may want to sign Wan-Bissaka on loan to allow the Czech defender to move on.

Moyes hasn’t settled on a right-back this season, with Coufal, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer all filling the role.

It gives Wan-Bissaka the perfect chance to make the position his own and prove his abilities after a tough time at Manchester United.

The Hammers may also have a trump card in signing the 25-year-old next month.

Manchester Evening News have shared that Wan-Bissaka shares an agent with Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell.

They also worked on the deal to sign Maxwel Cornet, and that prior relationship could get any deal over the line.
