Journalist suggests Vladimir Coufal is no longer wanted by West Ham boss David Moyes
Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports has suggested on GiveMeSport that Vladimir Coufal‘s West Ham United career could be about to come to an end.
The Czech international defender joined the Irons for £5.4 million (BBC) back in October 2020. He became a fan favourite at the London Stadium very quickly, but things haven’t gone his way over the last few months.
Journalist suggests Vladimir Coufal is no longer wanted by West Ham boss David Moyes
Coufal played large parts of each of West Ham’s first seven games of this season in the Premier League. Since then, however, the Czech has started just once in the league.
David Moyes has preferred other players in that position.
Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer have both played at right-back for the Hammers, and Sheth believes that’s a message to Coufal that he’s no longer a part of the plans at the London Stadium.
The journalist said: “If you look at the stats, he’s [Coufal] made seven Premier League starts this season.
“The likes of Ben Johnson have started ahead of him at right-back. I think more significantly when centre-back Nayef Aguerd was injured in pre-season, the club signed Thilo Kehrer. I think he was predominantly brought in as a central defender, but what has transpired is that he’s ended up playing right-back.
“If that’s not a message to Vladimír Coufal that he’s not part of the plans, then I don’t know what is.”
TBR View:
Coufal, who is 30 already, has clearly fallen down Moyes’ pecking order.
The Czech international’s contract expires at the end of this season, but the Hammers have an option to extend that by two additional years.
If Moyes’ recent decisions are anything to go by, that will definitely not happen next summer, which means Coufal is very likely to leave the Hammers in 2023.
It will be interesting to see if Coufal will stay at West Ham until the summer, or if he’ll push for a move when the winter transfer window opens next month.
