Report: West Ham strike agreement with PSG to sign goalkeeper, medical today
French newspaper L’Equipe claim – via GFFN – that West Ham have finally struck a deal to sign Alphonse Areola on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. The deal includes a permanent option to sign him beyond next summer. A medical is expected on Thursday, and a deal could be announced on Friday.
Areola, 28, starred for Fulham while on loan at the relegated club last season. Despite the Cottagers going down, Areola kept nine clean sheets in 36 league games and only conceded 48 goals. Compare that with West Brom’s Sam Johnstone, who conceded a huge 74 goals in 37.
West Ham had been taking talks slowly, as per a previous report. But on Thursday morning, L’Equipe report that West Ham have struck a loan-to-buy deal with PSG. Areola will remain in London, and undergo a medical today [Thursday]. A deal is likely to go through on Friday.
Finally, West Ham get a deal done in Areola
It had started to become a worry for fans. West Ham have an already-thin squad and with the Europa League on the horizon – more depth is needed. Areola comes in with Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph boasting a combined age of 70. The France international was much, much needed.
The report claims that the Hammers have struck an agreement – though it is unclear how much Areola’s permanent deal would be. If he replicates the form he showed at Fulham, though, then there is every chance West Ham will get the World Cup winner for more than just 12 months.
