Report: West Ham reject two bids for their 21-year-old prospect, Moyes wants him in the first-team next season

West Ham United want promising prospect Emmanuel Longelo to stay at the club and be part of the first team squad.

The Athletic report that London rivals Queens Park Rangers have been keen to sign the defender already this summer.

They have made two bids but have seen both turned down because David Moyes wants the 21-year-old in his plans next season.

That is despite Longelo having just one year left on his contract, which is a situation the club should probably get on with resolving.

West Ham want Longelo to stay

They say that the defender was also linked with Nottingham Forest and Peterborough United during the January transfer window.

Both of those moves would have seen his 2021/22 season end in very different ways.

Forest were promoted back to the Premier League, while Posh made an instant return to League 1.

Glasgow Rangers have also shown an interest in Longelo this summer, in the event that talented defender Calvin Bassey leaves.

West Ham have another European campaign coming up this season and their thin squad needs bolstering in terms of numbers.

Longelo will hope to get chances to impress and it would be ideal for all parties if a new longer term deal could be sorted to resolve his future.

Originally a midfielder, Longelo is now an attacking left-back, with his pace and delivery praised in his profile on West Ham’s official website.
