Report: Rangers interested in Emmanuel Longelo if Bassey leaves

Rangers are interested in signing Emmanuel Longelo, with The Sun reporting that the Gers could look to bring the 21-year-old to Ibrox if Calvin Bassey leaves this summer.

Bassey continues to be linked with a move away after a breakout season with the Gers. He was unbelievable as Rangers reached the Europa League final and won the Scottish Cup.

It would be fantastic for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men if they could keep Bassey. But it seems that they have other targets in mind in case the Nigeria international does go in the coming months.

And The Sun reports that Rangers want West Ham youngster Longelo. They face competition from teams in the Premier League and the Championship, with Bournemouth also amongst his admirers.

Longelo is set to leave due to his struggles to break into the first-team at the London Stadium. He has made his senior debut, featuring in the Europa League. But he has not featured again for David Moyes’ side.

He has impressed for the under-23s, providing five assists in Premier League 2 this past season.

Rangers interested in Longelo

Bassey would leave such a massive void if he did move on this summer. He has been a revelation at both left-back and centre-back. And replacing him would be extremely difficult.

But it cannot be forgotten that Bassey arrived from Leicester City having never made a senior appearance. He took some time to really find his form at Rangers. But everything seemed to click for him this past year.

So there is no reason why Longelo cannot do well if he moves to Ibrox in the coming weeks.

If he proved to be anywhere near as successful as Bassey, it could be another inspired piece of business from Rangers.
