Report: West Ham now really want to sign 'incredible' striker, he's their number one target this summer

Armando Broja is now West Ham’s top striker target as they continue to seek cover and competition for Michail Antonio.

The Telegraph report that the Hammers are trying to do a deal with their London rivals Chelsea to sign the man who spent last season on loan at Southampton.

But the takeover at Stamford Bridge has slowed the process of getting an asking price for Broja, which has so far left West Ham frustrated.

West Ham have other targets – they are not putting all their eggs in the one basket – but in an ideal world, Broja would be the one they end up landing this summer.

Broja’s pace was described as ‘incredible‘ during his Southampton loan spell and he does look to have a big future at Premier League level.

Now that Chelsea’s takeover has been done, they can complete transfers again, and it remains to be seen how the new regime value Broja.

If Chelsea could not get new blood in, that would have raised the prospects of Broja being kept around, but it seems he could now leave.

The Blues have made good money in recent years by loaning and then selling off their academy prospects, and Broja could be the next one to do exactly that.

Broja netted nine goals in all competitions last season, as per Transfermarkt, and showed enough to suggest he can cut it in the top flight.

The Hammers need alternatives up front with another European campaign, and their thin squad ultimately caught up with them in the closing weeks of last season.

Nayef Aguerd has come through the door, which is a start, but more is needed between now and the start of next term.
