Report: West Ham join Tottenham in race for Milenkovic

West Ham have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Nikola Milenkovic.

What’s the story

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers have been in talks with Fiorentina over the £22m Serbian.

The Lilywhites are reportedly keen on signing the centre-half, who has just one year left on his contract.

Reports from Gianluca Di Marzio claimed Spurs held talks with the player over three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Juventus have since registered their interest in the Serbia international.

West Ham’s move for the 23-year-old comes after a failure in their pursuit of Kurt Zouma. It’s claimed a deal remains ‘very difficult to complete’ for the Irons.

Adding quality is what this window is all about for David Moyes as his team embark on a campaign in Europe.

And there’s none much more attractive than the east European, who was a standout player last season.

In the final year of his contract, the youngster would prove cheaper than Zouma. Signing from a rival has never been easy, especially when you can no be classed as a threat to them in the league standings.

Then you have his quality.

Of players to make more than 20 league starts, only Craig Dawson made more tackles per game. Meanwhile, the ace averaged 3.6 clearances per game, the fourth-most when compared to the Londoners’ squad.

If Moyes wants a cheap and reliable option, Milenkovic could be his man this summer.
