West Ham are considering a move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the Hammers step up their pursuits of several players in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Maitland-Niles will surely be one player to leave the Emirates before the deadline. He is yet to feature for Mikel Arteta’s side in the early stages of this campaign.

And it may be West Ham who offer him a fresh challenge in the coming days.

It is no secret that it has been a less than ideal start to the season for David Moyes’ side. They sit bottom of the table after three losses from three.

But the side are planning to act, it seems. The Daily Mail reports that they are continuing their pursuit of Hans Vanaken. And a move for Emerson Palmieri is back on the agenda after talks previously broke down.

And the Daily Mail reports that a move for Maitland-Niles is also being considered.

Maitland-Niles will surely jump at the chance to leave Arsenal before the end of the window. The England international turns 25 this month. And it seems pretty clear that he is really going to struggle to break out from the periphery of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

He could be a decent signing for West Ham. Maitland-Niles has the ability to play in a number of roles, including wing-back and central midfield.

Former Arsenal man Martin Keown previously labelled him ‘fantastic‘. And he will leave feeling that he has a point to prove.

Much may depend on how much Arsenal want for Maitland-Niles. But if they are open to doing a deal on the cheap, it may be worth a gamble for West Ham.
