Report: West Ham consider 30-year-old forward at La Liga club
West Ham are reportedly setting their sights on Sevilla forward Luuk de Jong as a possible transfer target.
Hammers manager David Moyes is operating with a thin squad and is running out of time during this summer transfer window to bring in fresh faces at the London Stadium.
According to 90min, one of the positions Moyes wants to strengthen in before the window closes at the end of the month is at striker. Michail Antonio is the only senior option in that position within the first-team squad right now.
It is understood that West Ham’s attention could turn towards Sevilla attacker De Jong.
The report explains that Spanish La Liga club Sevilla will allow the 30-year-old to leave, so he’s a potential option for the Irons.
De Jong may be familiar to English audiences for a very brief loan spell with Newcastle United in 2014 that never took off. However, he’s shown in his career he’s a striker with ability.
Luuk de Jong another name added to West Ham rumours
It’s getting to a point in the window now where West Ham desperately need to sign someone. They have less two weeks to add to a group that looks low on numbers.
De Jong doesn’t quite have the speed or athleticism as Antonio, but would offer the Hammers something different.
He’s a frontman that’s good in the air and he did at least score nine goals last season, including two in the Champions League. His record of 112 goals in 204 PSV Eindhoven appearances from earlier in his career highlights his talent.
It seems unlikely the €12.5million (£10.7million) Dutch forward can dislodge Antonio from the XI, but could be a great option to rotate with in European and domestic cup games.
