Report: West Ham actually considered signing ‘brilliant’ PL player, but they’ve now chosen somebody else

West Ham United actually considered signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon this summer but they’ve now chosen Emerson Palmieri instead, according to 90 Min.

Reports suggested today that Nottingham Forest are considering a move for Reguilon but it seems they weren’t the only Premier League team with an eye on the player.

The Hammers have been exploring options for the left-back role as they look to provide competition for Aaron Creswell. And the ‘brilliant’ Reguilon apparently interested David Moyes at one point this summer.

The Spanish full-back has found himself frozen out in North London and is now looking for a move away from the club.

West Ham considered Reguilon

Despite playing for their bitter London rivals, Moyes was apparently considering a move to bring Reguilon to East London.

But 90 Min reports that West Ham are now prioritising a move for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.

Talks had broken down between Moyes’ men and the Blues but they are now back on.

And if the deal goes through as expected, it would seemingly all but end West Ham’s interest in Reguilon.

It would have been a surprising move to see Reguilon make the switch across London, especially considering the fierce rivalry between the clubs.

Whether Spurs would have let him join their bitter rivals would have been a different question.

But the Spain international is clearly not part of Conte’s plans this season and Spurs are clearly keen to move him on.

West Ham have opted for another player from one of their London rivals in Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the 28-year-old is now nearing a move to the Hammers and will complete part of his medical today.

As the Hammers have opted for Emerson over Reguilon, Spurs fans won’t have to worry about one of their players joining their rivals.

If the deal goes through, Moyes will be delighted to have an experienced player like Emerson join his ranks. The Italy international won the European Championships last year and should provide decent competition for Creswell this season.
