Aston Villa and Everton have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Pau Torres, with 90min reporting that Villarreal want upwards of £40 million for the centre-back.

Villa, of course, are now managed by Unai Emery, who left the Yellow Submarine to take over from Steven Gerrard in the Premier League.

It has been a rocky season so far for the Villans. And one of the key setbacks they have had to deal with came when summer signing Diego Carlos was ruled out long-term with a serious injury earlier on in the campaign.

It would appear that Emery is eyeing a reunion with Torres at Villa Park. But 90min suggests that there is plenty of competition for his signature.

Reports from Give Me Sport in recent days suggested that Tottenham want Torres. And 90min also suggests that Spurs are in the race to sign the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Everton are also admirers of the 25-year-old. Chelsea, Manchester United and Wolves are the other sides named in the report.

It would certainly appear that there is a very good chance that Torres could be on his way to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

He has so many admirers in England. And 90min suggests that clubs will not have to trigger his £55 million release clause to lure him away from Villarreal.

It would be a major statement from either Villa or Everton to secure his signature. They are two clubs who should be battling so, so much higher up the table.

Villa have shown some more promising signs under Emery. But it is a long way back for Everton right now.

Torres has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ in the past. So signing him would be a huge coup for either. But clearly, the interest from the likes of Spurs and Chelsea will do Villa and Everton no favours.
