Report: Tottenham keen on 'extraordinary' defender in intriguing situation

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Pau Torres and may look at making a fresh move for the Villarreal centre-back in the January transfer window, according to a report from Give Me Sport.

January is going to be a pivotal month for Antonio Conte’s side. Spurs have been incredibly intriguing to watch this season. They have looked nowhere near as impressive as the pace-setters in the Premier League.

And yet, they remain not far off the summit in the top-flight. And they are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League. So there is still a brilliant opportunity for Tottenham to achieve something special this term.

However, it seems crucial that they strengthen in January. And one area they may have their eye on is centre-back.

Give Me Sport notes that Alessandro Bastoni has been a key target for Tottenham. But with Inter Milan not interested in selling him, Spurs may look elsewhere.

The report suggests that there remains interest in Torres. And it is noted that the ‘intriguing’ situation may be one to keep an eye on with Unai Emery leaving Villarreal. Give Me Sport reports that his contract includes a £55 million release clause.

There has been plenty of links between Spurs and Torres in recent years. Cadena Ser reported in May that Tottenham made a £43 million bid for the Spaniard ahead of the summer.

Fabio Paratici clearly has players he is very fond of. And thus, it seems that some are destined to be linked with Tottenham in every window unless they actually sign for the club.

Torres appears to fit into that category at this stage. And with that, some will be wondering if Tottenham will ever get a deal done for the 25-year-old.

But he has been described as an ‘extraordinary‘ talent. And Spurs do need more quality at the heart of their defence ahead of the second-half of the season.

So Tottenham may well be making the right move should they ask the question about the defender in the winter.
