Report: Victor Orta jets off to complete £1.6m Leeds swoop

Norwegian outlet Nettavisen claim that Victor Orta and a number of Leeds United emissaries jetted off to Oslo this week, to sign Kristoffer Klaesson. The goalkeeper is one of three options to replace Kiko Casilla, as per the YEP. Now, Orta has met Klaesson in an Oslo restaurant this week.

Klaesson, 20, has caught the eye after starring for Norwegian side Valerenga – despite his tender age. The five-time Norway under-21 stopper has already clocked up 55 senior appearances for his boyhood club, in which he has kept 13 clean sheets. That form, at such a young age, has attracted Leeds.

Casilla left Leeds after a tumultuous spell at Elland Road this week, joining Spanish side Elche on a loan-to-buy deal. The YEP reported in the aftermath of his exit that Klaesson was one of three targets – along with Dani Cardenas and Freddie Woodman. The Chronicle even say Leeds bid for Woodman.

The latter is waiting to find out the severity of an injury to Martin Dubravka, which will likely determine in his future. But Klaesson seems to be Orta’s pick. He travelled to Oslo, being spotted in an Oslo restaurant with Klaesson and his agents. A fee of £1.6million is now expected.

Leeds wanted Klaesson before according to report – Orta clearly an admirer

Certainly on paper, he looks a real talent. For any young goalkeeper, to break in before the age of 23 is tricky. But Klaesson has done that at Valerenga and in doing so, has already outgrown the Norwegian outfit. The report claims Leeds were after him in 2020, but surely, the feeling is mutual.

Just look at Illan Meslier. Last season he broke the most Premier League clean sheets record under 21, and then the youngest to reach double figures. Klaesson will be looking at that and thinking, Leeds is the right fit. For £1.6million, he is low risk but potentially high reward.
