Report: Turkish club identify 31-year-old Everton ace as last-minute injury solution
The Turkish side have suffered an injury crisis on the wing, and have identified Townsend as the solution.
The transfer window in Turkey doesn’t close until Thursday, so Townsend still has time to make the move.
Townsend suffered a nasty knee injury towards the end of last season, and missed the last two months of action.
He suggested that the winger would be unlikely to be fit during the first half of this season.
Trabzonspor may have more information on whether Townsend will be available before that date.
However, he’s unlikely to pass a medical, let alone solve their injury crisis, if he hasn’t recovered from his ACL issue.
Trabzonspor make Townsend bid
Provided Townsend is getting close to full fitness the move could make sense for all parties.
The winger only has one year left on his Everton contract
This is therefore likely to be the Toffees last chance to cash in on Townsend.
Given his injury record, Everton may be reluctant to offer him a new deal.
Trabzonspor will also be competing in the Europa League this season, giving Townsend another opportunity to play in Europe.
Townsend must consider the bid that Trabzonspor have made carefully.
This transfer is likely to hinge on how close to full fitness he is right now.
Judging from past reports, it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to play any time soon, and that might ultimately be the deciding factor in this move.
