Report: Tottenham working on Pau Torres deal; Lo Celso could go in swap
Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal for Pau Torres that would involve Giovani Lo Celso moving in the opposite direction permanently, according to a report from Sky Italia.
Torres has been a Tottenham target for some time. He rejected the chance to move to North London last summer. And recent reports claimed that Spurs made a £43 million bid in this window, too.
Of course, Tottenham have a potential advantage in the race for the centre-back. Lo Celso spent the second-half of this past season on loan with Villarreal. And it seems that the Yellow Submarine would like to keep the midfielder permanently.
Reports have suggested that Unai Emery’s men are willing to pay £15 million for the Argentinian. So it may come as little surprise that the two clubs are now discussing a potential swap deal.
According to Sky Italia, Tottenham are working on a move for Torres which involves Lo Celso returning to La Liga permanently.

Obviously, the two clubs are likely to have some disagreements over how much both players are worth. Torres is one of Villarreal’s best players. And Tottenham spent a considerable sum to sign Lo Celso.
According to the London Evening Standard, Spurs ultimately paid £42.3 million for the 26-year-old. His time in North London has not exactly gone to plan. But they will still be wary of making too much of a loss on him.
Signing Torres in a swap would certainly soften the blow. And Tottenham will be aware that they may struggle to attract really significant offers from elsewhere for Lo Celso.
Landing Torres would be a potential coup. He is a ‘brilliant‘ player. And at 25, he should be at the peak of his powers for several years yet.
