Report: Tottenham have made £42.8m bid for Pau Torres this summer
Tottenham have made a £42.8 million bid for Pau Torres, with Cadena Ser in Spain reporting that the centre-back is open to leaving Villarreal this summer.
Torres has been linked with a move to Spurs for some time. Tottenham made a €50 million offer for the Spain international last summer. However, he rejected the chance to make the switch.
That has not put Tottenham off. Recent reports claimed that Spurs watched the 25-year-old in Champions League action as Villarreal threatened to produce a stunning semi-final comeback against Liverpool.
Torres is now open to moving to the Premier League. And Antonio Conte’s men have already taken steps towards trying to bring the defender to North London.
Cadena Ser reports that both Tottenham and Manchester United have offered £42.8 million. Unfortunately for Spurs, Torres is said to prefer a move to Old Trafford.
Tottenham have bid for Pau Torres
It is a shame for Spurs that Torres may be about to disappoint them for a second year running. Conte needs to strengthen at centre-back ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.
Graham Roberts claimed Torres was a ‘fantastic‘ defender previously. And clearly, Tottenham are big admirers of the Villarreal star.
It is potentially a surprise to hear that he would prefer to join Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is taking over at a time when the club are in disarray.
They will be in the Europa League next year. And the squad needs an overhaul after several years of disappointment.
Tottenham meanwhile, are definitely moving in the right direction. They will be one team to watch this summer. And many will be backing them for real success under Conte.
Nevertheless, it may not be enough to convince Torres into a move in the coming weeks.
