Manchester United will attempt to negotiate a deal that involves Anthony Martial joining Tottenham Hotspur as they look to sign Harry Kane this summer, according to a report from ESPN.

Kane’s future is once again a talking point as the end of the campaign looms. He has rediscovered his best form for Spurs in recent weeks. And it does appear that Antonio Conte’s men will face a fresh fight to keep him.

Reports claimed this week that Manchester United are considering a move for Kane. And ESPN is also now suggesting that he is on their wishlist. However, there is a problem.

ESPN reports that Tottenham value Kane at more than £100 million. And the Red Devils view that as a problem given his age. His contract also has just over two years left to run.

But Manchester United hope that they can find a way to lower the asking price. ESPN reports that they could offer Tottenham the chance to sign Martial.

The report notes that Spurs have previously been interested in the Frenchman. And they could attempt a swap deal or a separate transfer.

Martial meanwhile, would prefer to move to Spain or Italy should he leave Old Trafford. He is currently on loan with Sevilla, but unlikely to stay beyond this season.

Martial would be an underwhelming replacement for Kane at Tottenham

Martial’s record for Manchester United is reasonably good. He has scored 79 goals and provided 50 assists in 269 games in all competitions. And he has praised during his time in England.

Owen Hargreaves previously labelled him a Ferrari. Meanwhile, Paul Scholes has called him a ‘brilliant’ finisher.

However, he has never managed to live up to expectations during his time with Manchester United. And with that, he would surely be an underwhelming signing for Tottenham.

Spurs are certainly unlikely to listen to a swap deal if it involves Manchester United paying a much lower fee for Kane.
