Report: Tottenham target Zaniolo now likely to move next summer

Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur may well be on alert, with Calciomercatoweb reporting that Nicolo Zaniolo being sold by Roma next summer is looking increasingly likely with a new contract some way off.

Zaniolo has been heavily linked with a Premier League move, particularly in the last 12 months. Most of those links have centred around a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Sky Italia claimed that Antonio Conte dreams of using Zaniolo alongside Harry Kane. And at one stage in the summer, Corriere dello Sport reported that Zaniolo had his bags packed, ready to make the move to Spurs.

Of course, ultimately no move would take place. And more recently, it has been their North London neighbours who have been in the running.

Journalist Ciro Venetaro claimed that Arsenal are monitoring the attacking midfielder.

Zaniolo has not had his best season for Roma. But it would appear that an opportunity to take him away from the Giallorossi is coming up.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2024. And Calciomercatoweb reports that talks over a new deal are not going well. An agreement is said to still be some way away.

And with that, Zaniolo leaving Roma next summer is looking increasingly likely. The report notes that both Juventus and AC Milan are preparing player-plus-cash bids.

Roma meanwhile, would be happy with a fee close to £35 million.

It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal or Tottenham look to take advantage of his availability.

He has not had the best season. And he has had his injury issues in the past. His contract situation may also make his £35 million asking price seem a little steep to some.

But there is no question that he could be an outstanding signing if everything clicks. He is an ‘incredible‘ talent, capable of playing in a few roles. There were suggestions that Conte could look to deploy him as a wing-back.

So it may be a situation to keep an eye on should he find form over the coming months.
