Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Martin Terrier, with Foot Mercato reporting that the striker could now miss the next eight months due to a knee injury.

Terrier was stretchered off in the first-half of Rennes’ 2-1 win over Nice on Monday. It is a huge setback for the Ligue 1 side, with the 25-year-old scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in all competitions this season.

It seemed that Rennes faced a battle to keep him beyond the January transfer window.

Tottenham target Terrier to miss the rest of the season with injury

Reports from Media Foot last month claimed that Tottenham were one of the sides to hold talks with Terrier’s representatives about a potential move. They wanted to learn whether the forward would be interested in a switch, and what terms would be involved.

Unfortunately for Antonio Conte’s men, it would appear that Terrier will not be going anywhere this month.

Foot Mercato is reporting that Terrier will miss the rest of the season. In fact, he could be out for up to eight months with the knee injury. So he could be absent well into the new campaign.

Given that there were seemingly not too many links between Tottenham and Terrier, you would imagine that he was potentially not a top target for this window.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of sides looking towards the likes of France, Portugal and the Netherlands for extremely talented players at lower prices.

So a move for Terrier would have been a shrewd one. Another report from Media Foot suggested that he has a price of around £31 million.

He has been prolific since the start of last season. And Tottenham need greater depth in the final third. So he would have been a very decent addition to the ranks.

However, his focus will now solely be on getting back as soon as possible.
