Report: Tottenham target Pickford continues to snub new Everton contract
Tottenham Hotspur believe that they will be able to tempt Jordan Pickford to join in the summer should the Everton goalkeeper continue to snub signing a new contract at Goodison Park, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
Spurs are on the lookout for a replacement for Hugo Lloris. Lloris has been a fantastic servant in North London. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Tottenham now need to find an upgrade in the coming windows.
And it seems that the man they want is Pickford.
Tottenham target Pickford continues to snub new Everton contract
Reports from the Daily Mail recently suggested that the Everton board were yet to sign off on a new five-year deal for the 28-year-old – despite Pickford agreeing to the terms before the World Cup. His current contract with Frank Lampard’s side expires at the end of next season.
However, the Daily Mirror suggests that the circumstances are slightly different. Their report claims that it is Pickford who is snubbing the chance to sign improved terms on Merseyside.
And with that, Tottenham think that they could tempt the £25 million England international to join in the summer.
It is not difficult to see why Pickford would be tempted by the chance to join Tottenham. Another relegation battle looks to be on the cards for Everton.
He is someone who has been a regular for his country for several years now. Bukayo Saka suggested that he is ‘exceptional‘. And he will not want to jeopardise his chances of remaining number one by staying with the Toffees if their struggles persist.
Spurs will soon have a void to fill. It is not often that the top clubs have an opening for a new number one. But that will be case for Tottenham sooner rather than later.
They are not exactly flying this season. But clearly, they are in a much, much better place than Everton.
So with Spurs waiting in the wings, it is not surprising that Pickford is not rushing to sign a new deal with the Toffees.
