Report: Spurs on alert as Everton hesitate over new Pickford contract

Tottenham Hotspur have been put on alert with the Daily Mail reporting that Everton are yet to sign off on a new five-year contract for Jordan Pickford, with his Premier League admirers now believing that there could be a deal to be done for the goalkeeper.

Pickford has been one of Everton’s best players over the last 18 months. Certainly, few players did more on their own to keep the Toffees in the Premier League last season.

With that, a number of sides want the 28-year-old. The Daily Mail reports that Spurs are monitoring Pickford, while Manchester United and Chelsea also have the England international on their radar.

The Daily Mail reports that his future at Goodison Park is in doubt. That is despite him agreeing a new five-year contract ahead of the World Cup.

The Everton hierarchy are actually yet to sign off on the deal. And thus, the sides chasing his signature believe there is a potential move up for grabs, according to the Mail.

Pickford has been a divisive figure throughout his career, particularly at Everton. But there is little doubt that he is a very good goalkeeper, with the potential to play much higher up the table.

Tottenham are on the lookout for a successor to Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman has been an outstanding servant. But he turned 36 this week. And he is going to need replacing at some stage in the coming years.

Some fans may not be best pleased about the idea of Pickford coming in. But he is someone Eric Dier has labelled ‘incredible‘ in the past. Meanwhile, Gary Neville suggested that he has done better than he ever thought he would.

And with his contract having around 18 months left to run, there may be scope for a bargain deal if Everton do hesitate to sign off his fresh terms.
