Report: Tottenham rejected loan bid for their ‘magnificent’ player yesterday morning, club could now buy him

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The Argentine was brought to North London from Real Betis back in the summer of 2019, on an initial loan deal. It was then made permanent the following window for a total fee of £42.3 million to Real Betis for Lo Celso (£27.3m transfer fee + £15m loan fee).

But it’s fair to say that it hasn’t quite worked out for Lo Celso at Spurs and he was loaned to Villareal during the January window last season. And it seems that the 26-year-old isn’t part of Conte’s future plans after being left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of South Korea.

Lo Celso has now emerged as a target for Fiorentina but Fiorentina Uno reports that Spurs have blocked a loan move to the Italian club and this will slow down any negotiations for the player.

Tottenham reject Fiorentina loan bid for Lo Celso

The report claims that Fiorentina were keen to take Lo Celso on loan, like they did with Real Madrid’s Alvaro Odriozola last season, but Tottenham have rejected the offer, which came in yesterday morning.

It states that the clubs are still working to find an agreement, which points to Spurs wanting a permanent deal for the Argentine.

The ‘magnificent’ Lo Celso enjoyed a very successful loan spell at Unai Emery’s Villareal during the second-half of last season. The Tottenham man played a pivotal role in the team that made it into the last four of the Champions League.

But he’s really struggled to make any kind of impact at Spurs and Conte doesn’t see Lo Celso in his plans for the future.

Lo Celso is clearly a talented player and he proved that during his spell at Real Betis. However, injuries and inconsistency have hampered any progress he’s made during his Tottenham career.

TBR’s View: A permanent move for Lo Celso would be best for everyone involved

It’s clear that Lo Celso doesn’t have a future at Spurs while Antonio Conte is in charge. The Italian sent him on loan last season and left him out of his pre-season tour squad.

Rather than another temporary spell away from North London, it would probably be for the best if the club found a permanent suitor for him.

Lo Celso wants to leave Tottenham and while Fiorentina may be an attractive proposition for the player, a return to Villareal would make the most sense for him.
