Tottenham Hotspur are ready to hand Pedro Porro a contract worth around £85,000-a-week should they manage to agree a deal for the Sporting right-back, according to a report from Record.

Porro remains a key target for Tottenham. Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that the 23-year-old is their top target for the right wing-back role. And he is keen to make the switch.

However, Spurs have hurdles to clear before they bring him to North London.

Tottenham ready to double Pedro Porro wages

Sporting have made it clear that Porro will only leave should his £40 million release clause be triggered.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham are prepared to go to that number, or whether they will try and reach a compromise. But it does seem that they are ready to offer Porro extremely lucrative terms.

According to a report from Record, Spurs want to hand Porro a contract worth €5 million per year, which works out at around £85,000-a-week.

Crucially, that would see Porro’s wages rise considerably. In fact, he would be earning more than double what he is currently earning in Portugal.

According to Spotrac, that would put the former Manchester City man on the same wages on Eric Dier. So that provides an indication as to how highly Spurs rate him.

Porro is clearly an extremely talented defender. He was superb against Tottenham in the Champions League earlier this season, with Jermaine Jenas suggesting that he was ‘different class‘.

Spurs must sense that there may be scope to agree a deal at a lower price. If they are that keen to bring him in, there must be a temptation to just trigger his release clause and get a deal done.

Right wing-back has been a problem for Antonio Conte. And they could address that situation quickly by paying the money for Porro.

Perhaps they are optimistic that they can sign him for less than £40 million.
