Report: Tottenham open talks to sign Sporting defender Pedro Porro
Spurs are well-stocked at right wing-back right now. Antonio Conte has Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence in his ranks. However, it would appear that he is not satisfied with the options available to him.
Royal has come in for criticism this term. Meanwhile, Doherty’s time at Tottenham has been turbulent. And it seems that Conte is not convinced about Spence.

And with that, Tottenham are looking at making further additions in January. According to AS, Spurs are now in discussions with Sporting over a possible deal for the 23-year-old.
Unsurprisingly, Sporting want to keep Porro until the summer. But he has a release clause worth around £40 million.
Tottenham are not looking to pay that amount. But AS suggests that they are prepared to make an offer worth up to £26 million for the youngster next month.
Porro would be a really exciting signing for Tottenham if an agreement can be reached. Clearly, it is not going to be easy to convince the Portuguese side to sell him during the upcoming window.
He has shone since moving to Sporting, with 28 goal involvements in just 91 games. Jermaine Jenas meanwhile, suggested that he was ‘different class‘ when he came up against Spurs in the Champions League earlier this season.
Tottenham do not necessarily need to sign another wing-back in January. Certainly, you would imagine that another player will leave if a new signing is made.
But many will feel that Porro is an upgrade. Neither Royal or Doherty have been consistently impressive since their moves to Spurs. And Spence is hopefully seen as one for the future.
It appears that there is some distance to make up before Spurs sign Porro. But it is encouraging that talks are underway.
