Report: Tottenham now want to sign Arsenal fan-favourite Wojciech Szczesny
The Juventus goalkeeper, branded as ‘exceptional’ by Arsene Wenger, played 181 times for the Gunners during his time at the Emirates. He was on Arsenal’s books for 11 years but was sold in the summer of 2017.
Tottenham want to sign Arsenal fan favourite Wojciech Szczesny
Tottenham are at the stage where they need to think about replacing Hugo Lloris.
The Frenchman has been a fantastic servant for Spurs over the last decade, but he’ll turn 36 next month and it’s time for Antonio Conte to look for a quality replacement.
Darren Bent urged Tottenham to sign Jordan Pickford earlier this week, but if the report is to be believed, Spurs are ‘very interested’ in Szczesny, despite his allegiance to their fierce North London rivals, Arsenal.
The report claims that Conte would ‘gladly take’ the Polish international at his club in one of the next two transfer windows, and Juventus are apparently already on the lookout for a replacement.
Szczesny will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January. He has been a fantastic goalkeeper for Juve over the last five years, but it does look like his time in Turin is coming to an end.
Szczesny hates Spurs
We’re not surprised that Tottenham are looking around for a new goalkeeper, but we’ll be shocked if they can bring in Szczesny.
The Pole still has a lot of love for Arsenal. He still supports the Gunners from a distance, and much to Gunners supporters’ delight, he has previously claimed that he ‘hates’ Tottenham.
Back in 2012, when Arsenal and Spurs were fighting for a place in the top four, Szczesny came out and said he was desperate to finish above Tottenham because he ‘hates’ them.
He said, as quoted by Sky Sports: “After the Tottenham game, we reduced the gap to them a little bit. It is obvious that it is my ambition to finish the season in front of them… because I hate them.”
