Report: Tottenham looking into January deal for Ruslan Malinovskyi
Tottenham Hotspur are looking into a deal for Ruslan Malinovskyi during the January transfer window, with Il Giorno reporting that Spurs have made contact with Atalanta about a potential move.
Malinovskyi looks set to leave the Serie A club in one of the coming windows. His contract in Italy expires at the end of the season.
He has not had the best start to the campaign, scoring just one goal and contributing one assist in 11 games. But there is plenty of interest in the 29-year-old.
Tottenham looking into Malinovskyi deal
Tutto Atalanta reported in the summer that Spurs were discussing a fee with Atalanta for the attacking midfielder. And Fabrizio Romano then suggested on the Here We Go podcast that Malinovskyi was dreaming of joining Antonio Conte’s side.
Obviously, no move would ultimately take place. But the speculation has already begun ahead of the January window.
Il Giorno reports that Tottenham, West Ham and Nottingham Forest all have their eye on Malinovskyi ahead of the winter. In fact, it is suggested that Spurs have already spoken to Atalanta recruitment chief Lee Congerton about the Ukraine international.
Atalanta want £13 million for Malinovskyi in January. So that may prove to be a stumbling block. But perhaps a compromise could be on the cards. He can, of course, discuss a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs from the turn of the year.
January is going to be an important month for Tottenham. They have come in for a lot of criticism considering that they currently sit third in the Premier League table. And they should book their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League tonight.
Spending £13 million on a 29-year-old whose deal is almost up may not make a lot of sense on paper. But Malinovskyi has been labelled an ‘extraordinary‘ talent in the past.
And Tottenham may have an opportunity to achieve something special this season. So spending a little extra in January would make more sense to give Conte’s squad that boost they may need.
