Report: Tottenham interested in Barcelona wing-back target Dodo
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Shakhtar Donetsk wing-back Dodo, with Sport reporting that Spurs are one of the front-runners to sign the Brazilian this summer.
Dodo is set to leave Shakhtar in this window. Sport reports that he is ready for a new challenge. Obviously, football in Ukraine has understandably been an afterthought in recent months.
The 23-year-old has been compared with Dani Alves. So it is probably no surprise that Sport reports that Xavi wants to sign Dodo for Barcelona. But the Catalan giants face a lot of competition.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are keen on the youngster. And Sport adds that both Fiorentina and Tottenham want Dodo. It is stated that Spurs are now amongst the front-runners to sign the defender.
Tottenham interested in Dodo
Tottenham may well look to strengthen at right-back this summer. Reports have suggested that they are very keen on Djed Spence. The 21-year-old helped Nottingham Forest to promotion while on loan from Middlesbrough.
But Dodo is seemingly another contender for the position. And perhaps it may be his compatriot who is replaced should Tottenham sign the Shakhtar star.
Emerson Royal had a difficult first season in North London. He seemed to struggle in Conte’s system. And he lost his place to Matt Doherty.
However, Royal ended the season in good form after Doherty’s campaign was cut short due to injury.
Nevertheless, it appears that Royal could leave in the coming weeks. It does seem that he is not quite suited to what Conte wants from his wing-backs.
Dodo would offer more of an attacking threat. He has contributed 17 assists in 97 games for his current club. And he has also scored a handful of goals.
He is not yet a household name. But judging by the clubs chasing his signature, it will not be too long before Dodo becomes more widely-known. Perhaps Tottenham will be the ones to provide him with that platform.
