Report: Tottenham are about to sign 'incredible' £17m player this week, Paratici has personally seen him
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to announce their second summer signing as early as week, with a bid to sign Djed Spence set to be ramped up.
Spence was superb for Nottingham Forest last season as they won promotion from the Championship and his parent club Middlesbrough are expected to cash in. Tottenham have emerged as the major favourites to sign him in recent weeks, with Fabio Paratici having gone to watch Spence in person.
And according to The Express, Spurs are now set to ramp up their efforts to sign Spence in the coming days, with the club increasingly confident a deal can be done. The report from The Express backs up a further report from Football Transfers today, which suggested Tottenham had bid £17m for the right-back.
Spence is a major target for Nottingham Forest but the lure of playing for one of the Champions League clubs will no doubt be weighing on the defender’s mind. Further, the way Antonio Conte plays will be a big draw for Spence.
The Middlesbrough man is expected to replace Emerson Royal at the club, who could be sold after just one season in English football. Spence was labelled as ‘incredible’ for his performance against Arsenal last term.
TBR’s View: Tottenham And Spence Suit Each Other At The Moment
A marauding right-back with energy, athleticism, and a willingness to get up and down the flank is exactly what Conte wants at Tottenham. The likes of Doherty and Emerson have done ok, but Conte wants more.
It’s easy to see what he sees and likes in Spence. The Forest loan star was superb for the Reds last term and there’s a real excitement and intrigue into how he can do in the Premier League.
£17m might seem a lot for a player yet to make a PL appearance. But if Djed Spence can produce at Tottenham like he has with Forest, then it’s an absolute snip.
