Report: Tottenham eye Sven Botman, Bastoni and Gvardiol
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Sven Botman, Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol as Antonio Conte targets a new centre-back in the summer, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Botman was heavily linked with a Premier League move during the January transfer window. However, it looked to be Newcastle United making the biggest play for his signature.
Ultimately, he stayed at Lille. The Telegraph reports that the Ligue 1 side would not have let him leave for less than £46 million.
But the Dutchman is not the only option on Conte’s radar. Bastoni made 33 Serie A appearances as Conte led Inter Milan to the Scudetto last season.
Meanwhile, Gvardiol has been a stalwart for RB Leipzig this season. He started the campaign at left-back. But he has started their last 12 Bundesliga games at centre-back.
Like Botman, the Croatia international has been linked with a Premier League move previously. Leeds nearly signed the youngster before his move to Germany.
Tottenham fans can be excited about interest in Botman, Bastoni and Gvardiol
Tottenham did not sign a centre-back in January. So it is little surprise that Conte is keen on bolstering their ranks at the end of the season.
Botman is perhaps the one with the biggest reputation. Paulo Maldini labelled him a ‘great player‘ earlier this year. AC Milan are another of his many admirers. Meanwhile, Jose Fonte called him a ‘machine‘.
But Conte has a strong relationship with Bastoni. In fact, the 22-year-old said he would not be where he is now without the Tottenham boss.
And Gvardiol looks to have a frightening amount of potential. He only turned 20 last month. And yet, he ticks so many boxes.
He has the stature of the centre-back. Only two players have made more interceptions in the Bundesliga this season, according to FB Ref.
But he also offers plenty as a full-back. Again, only two players have made a greater number of progressive passes in the German top-flight.
