Leeds United have seemingly been given hope in their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol, with a report from Croatian outlet Index claiming that the centre-back could now change his mind over snubbing a potential move.
Gvardiol has been linked with an Elland Road switch for a little while. The Daily Mail reported last month that the Whites were in talks with Dinamo Zagreb regarding the 18-year-old.
24 Sata subsequently reported Leeds had had a £19 million bid accepted. Interestingly however, Marcelo Bielsa’s side increased their offer to £20 million, and included a 20 percent sell-on clause.
However, Sportske Novosti then claimed that Gvardiol had concerns about moving to the Premier League at this stage of his career. It was suggested that he would be open to staying put or even moving to fellow admirers RB Leipzig.
Index’s report notes that Gvardiol may have previously had concerns about potentially joining Leeds. However, they have suggested that he may be ready to reconsider his future.
That is because Dinamo have been knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Ferencvaros this week.
It is suggested that Gvardiol could now consider leaving.
Of course, based on the previous reports, Leeds fans may still be somewhat pessimistic about their chances of signing the teenager.
However, Index adds that Leeds have actually made the only offer for Gvardiol thus far.
TBR View: Leeds could really benefit from Gvardiol move
It would provide a big boost for Bielsa’s side if they can bring Gvardiol in. In the first two games of the campaign, they have experienced issues at the back.
They were without Liam Cooper for the season-opener at Liverpool. Meanwhile, the likes of Charlie Cresswell, Olly Casey and Leif Davis endured a tough night in the Carabao Cup loss against Hull.
So Leeds fans will be hoping that Gvardiol is indeed closer to the exit. And they will be hoping that they remain the only club with an offer on the table when a decision is finally made.
