Report: Tottenham expect Newcastle bid for 25-year-old this month

Tottenham Hotspur now expect Newcastle United to make an approach for Dele Alli before the end of the January transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Predicting what the future holds for Dele looks incredibly difficult. The 25-year-old has been given chances by Antonio Conte.

And there have been glimpses of the old Dele. He was lauded by many Tottenham fans after the brilliant draw with Liverpool in December.

However, he has not featured in the Premier League this month. And he did not make much of an impact in the FA Cup tie with Morecambe.

Glenn Hoddle previously described Dele as a wonderful player. However, it is hard to see Conte putting his full faith in the attacking midfielder again after his underwhelming start to life working under the Italian.

Interestingly, Tottenham are now expecting to be offered the chance to offload Dele before the deadline passes. The Daily Mail reports that Spurs believe that Newcastle will make an approach this month.

It is suggested that the Magpies could make their move should they fail in their pursuit of Jesse Lingard.

Time is right for Tottenham to gamble and let Dele Alli leave as Newcastle eye bid

Newcastle will surely want Dele on loan initially. He has struggled for some time. And a number of managers have now failed to help him recapture his best form.

A loan move may make a lot of sense for Tottenham. If Dele does leave and manages to replicate anything like what Lingard did at West Ham last year, his asking price will surely rise significantly.

Meanwhile, Spurs could yet decide to take another look at him ahead of next season. So a temporary move may be the best option for all parties.

Certainly, it does appear that the time is right for Tottenham to move him on with Newcastle interested.
