According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham have now made the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram a priority.

What’s the story?

Well, the French news outlet believe Spurs are desperate to sign the son of Lilian Thuram.

The 4-cap France international – who was involved at EURO 2020 – enjoyed an impressive 2020/21 campaign.

Thuram scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists for the Bundesliga outfit, which helped earn him a place in France’s EURO 2020 squad.

Now, Tottenham are circling the Borussia Monchengladbach No.10, amid doubts over Harry Kane’s future in north London.

Foot Mercato claim that Thuram has a €30m (£26m) release clause in his contract, which will need to be triggered if he is to leave.

Borussia Monchengladbach are in no mood to negotiate.

Foot Mercato add that Borussia Dortmund are also following the Parma-born Frenchman closely.

For those of you who don’t know much about Thuram, a comparison might be handy.

The Bundesliga’s official website likened him to Manchester United forward Anthony Martial, claiming that he’s quick, strong and direct just like his fellow countryman.

Interestingly, Martial was actually linked with a move to Tottenham at the start of July.

Perhaps Spurs are eyeing players who are similar to the ex-Monaco man.

In our view, this would be a fantastic signing to kickstart the Nuno Espirito Santo era.

Thuram is young, exciting and seems to be improving year after year.

Also, with Hugo Lloris, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele already at the club, he shouldn’t have any issues settling in.
