Report: Tottenham defender offered new contract; talks advanced
Tottenham Hotspur have offered Tobi Omole a new contract and talks are said to be at an advanced stage, according to All Nigeria Soccer.
The 21-year-old has been at Spurs for just over a year now. He arrived off the back of a spell with Arsenal. And he has already played 34 times for Tottenham’s under-23s.
The youngster is yet to make his first-team debut for Spurs. But he has been included on the bench for the senior side, including in the Premier League, featuring on the team sheet in the defeat to Crystal Palace this season.
And it appears that Tottenham want to ensure that he remains on the books next term.
All Nigeria Soccer reports that Omole is highly thought of at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And thus, he has already been offered a new contract. It is claimed that discussions are well on their way towards an agreement. His current deal is set to expire at the end of this season.
Omole with big point to prove as Tottenham offer defender new contract
All Nigeria Soccer note that the deal will keep him at Tottenham for the 2022/23 campaign. That would perhaps hint that Omole may have only been offered a short-term contract.
That would suggest that he still has plenty to prove before he secures a long-term future at Spurs.
In fairness, Antonio Conte preferring a back three system may work in his favour as a centre-back. He showed a glimpse of his potential when he featured for the side in pre-season.
And there is always scope for a player to be a surprise package under Conte. Omole looks set to have more time to prove that he could be one at Tottenham.
