Report: Tottenham could sign 'incredible' PL player just a year after Arsenal didn't think he was worth £30m
90Min have reported on their search for Hugo Lloris’ successor and Raya is admired at Spurs, with his contract expiring in 2024.
Spurs were linked with Raya during Jose Mourinho’s reign, but that was seemingly as a potential backup option, and they went for Joe Hart instead.
Now, he has established himself as a Premier League goalkeeper and is in Spain’s squad for the World Cup.
Tottenham like Raya
Raya has been linked with Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal too, with Metro reporting in June 2021 that the Gunners had scouted him for a year.
But they did not think he was worth the £30 million asking price, and went for Aaron Ramsdale as their number one, offloading Emi Martinez and then Bernd Leno.
It remains to be seen how much Brentford would demand for Raya now, given his star has been on the rise since then but his contract situation remains unresolved.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also expressed his admiration for Raya’s ‘incredible’ passing, as per BBC Sport.
It seems unlikely that Raya will get gametime for Spain in Qatar, although if anything happens to Unai Simon, he could be thrust into the global spotlight.
That would also likely impact Spurs’ ability to buy him and his asking price, and it also remains to be seen who is their top goalkeeping choice.
Plenty of options are mooted in the report, but a clear frontrunner is yet to emerge, with Raya as good a potential option as any as it stands.
