Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing David Raya before their acquisition of Joe Hart, according to a report from Football London.
Raya has been linked with a move away from Brentford this summer. The Telegraph recently reported that the Spaniard was hopeful of securing a move to Arsenal amid doubts over Emiliano Martinez’s future with the Gunners.

The report noted that the Bees had no intention of getting into negotiations with Mikel Arteta’s men over a potential move for their £3 million signing.
And that perhaps helps explain why their North London rivals looked elsewhere as they tried to bolster their options between the sticks this summer.

According to Football London, Tottenham were also monitoring Raya earlier in the window. However, the report notes that their interest in the 24-year-old ended once they brought in Joe Hart.
TBR View: Hart looks the more sensible choice for short-term, but Raya has bright future ahead
You can understand why Jose Mourinho moved for Hart amid interest in Raya. With Hugo Lloris around, Tottenham did not necessarily need to spend big money on a new goalkeeper.
And if Brentford are currently unwilling to sell Raya, it may have taken an eye-watering fee to reach an agreement.
Signing Hart therefore, makes sense for what Spurs need right now. However, in the future, it should not come as a surprise if Raya comes onto their radar again.
He has largely been outstanding for Brentford. And he is more than eight years younger than Hart.
So it would be interesting to know whether Mourinho keeps one eye on whether Arsenal succeed during the remaining weeks of the window in case he is a player that Tottenham look at once again further down the line.
