Tottenham Hotspur are considering a bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to CalcioMercatoWeb.

The report suggests that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici want to fill the space in the Tottenham squad left by Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele no longer being in Conte’s plans.

A bid for Milinkovic-Savic that could rise to £50.8m is now being considered, with Juventus also interested in the Serbian international.

Conte has always been an admirer of Milinkovic-Savic, with one report suggesting he’s crazy about the midfielder.

It’s far from the first time the 27-year-old has been linked with a move to England, with Arsenal reportedly tracking the Milinkovic-Savic earlier in the summer.

Tottenham consider bid for Milinkovic-Savic

It would be a good time to sign Milinkovic-Savic if Spurs can pull a deal off, given the form he’s shown over the last twelve months.

The Lazio midfielder was one of just three players in Serie A last season to record more than ten goals and ten assists, along with Domenico Berardi and Rafael Leao.

For context, only Mohamed Salah, Jarrod Bowen and Mason Mount achieved that feat in the Premier League last year.

The 27-year-old only has two years left on his contract, and Lazio may have to consider cashing in now to get the best value out of any deal.

The report suggests Tottenham are now considering bidding for Milinkovic-Savic with the money set aside for Nicolo Zaniolo, as former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho wants to keep the young Italian.

Milinkovic-Savic offers Conte a different midfield option

Milinkovic-Savic would certainly offer a different option to Tottenham’s current midfielders, who look to provide for others rather than score themselves.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, but has never scored more than four goals in a Premier League season.

Conte’s system at Spurs doesn’t require central midfielders to be potent in the final third, with creativity normally coming from the wings to provide for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Tottenham aren’t close to a deal yet, and with Juventus also interested in the Serb, Milinkovic-Savic’ future still hangs in the balance.
