According to 90min, Jose Mourinho is trying extremely hard to ruin Tottenham Hotspur‘s plans of signing Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma this summer.

The ‘Special One’ spent 17 months at Spurs before he was sacked. He has been pretty vocal about Daniel Levy’s decision to get rid of him, and he may now get his revenge by ruining his old club’s hopes of signing an incredible player.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move to sign Zaniolo from Roma. The Italian has been a target for the North Londoners for a long, long time, and Fabio Paratici is really pushing to sign him.

The report claims that Tottenham tabled a bid to sign Zaniolo on loan this summer with a purchase clause for an initial £21 million included in the deal. Roma were far from happy with such a low proposal and immediately turned it down.

The Giallorossi are open to selling Zaniolo, but only if Tottenham meet their asking price of £42 million. The report claims that the Roma boss is the driving force behind his club’s stubbornness in transfer negotiations with Spurs.

Mourinho is absolutely desperate to keep hold of Zaniolo, who scored eight goals and provided nine assists in all competitions last season.

With two-and-a-half weeks still left in the transfer window, this could go down to the wire.

Tottenham’s initial offer for Zaniolo was never going to be accepted by Roma – irrespective of what Mourinho wanted to do.

However, the 59-year-old is really pushing his side to be strong in negotiations with Spurs, which could cause the deal to collapse.

That’s probably what Mourinho wants as it would mean Zaniolo will stay at Roma for another season. To add to that, the ‘Special One’ would get one over his former employers, who sacked him just a few days before the cup final.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming days, but as things stand, Zaniolo is likely to stay with Mourinho at Roma.
