Report: Tottenham are interested in signing £25m midfielder in January, but want his asking price reduced

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott in January.

That’s according to TalkSPORT, who believe Antonio Conte’s side are one of a number of clubs interested in the 19-year-old.

Manager Antonio Conte has brought in a number of exciting young players since arriving at Spurs.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero have thrived in north London.

However, Scott may heed the warning of the last player who arrived from the Football League in Djed Spence.

After a fantastic season with Nottingham Forest, Spence has barely played a minute under Conte.

The report suggests that Bristol City have set a £25m price tag for Scott.

However, Tottenham would only be interested in signing Scott if that asking price is reduced.

Given that Bournemouth and Wolves also want Scott, the Championship side are unlikely to lower their demands quickly.

In fact, they’ll be hoping a bidding war breaks out for their talented teenager.

Tottenham interested in Bristol City’s Scott

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has previously suggested that Spurs have heavily scouted Scott.

Scott has been virtually ever-present for Bristol City in the Championship this season.

Although he’s yet to open his account, he’s provided five assists for the Robins.

He’s an industrious central midfielder, and works very hard out of possession.

Scott is a strong dribbler too, but tends to function more in his own half.

Tottenham aren’t short of young central midfielders in their squad already.

There are high hopes for Oliver Skipp, while Pape Matar Sarr has done well this month when finally handed an opportunity.

However, Tottenham are interested in Scott after seeing him consistently play at a high level in England’s second tier at such a young age.

His potential is incredibly high, and Spurs may want to beat other big clubs to the punch by signing him at such a young age.

Given there’s no immediate need to bring him in, it would make sense for Tottenham to let his asking price fall.

Ben Jacobs has previously suggested he could be available for just £12m, which would be a much more realistic fee.
