Report: Tottenham and West Ham battling to sign striker who scored four goals on Saturday
Italian outlet CalcioMercato claims that Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are battling each other to sign Braga striker Vítor Oliveira, who is popularly known as Vitinha.
The two London sides have top-quality strikers in Harry Kane and Michail Antonio. Both forwards are capable of winning games on their own for their respective clubs, but neither have a good-enough backup.
Both West Ham and Tottenham are looking for a place in the top four at the end of the season. They will need all the help they can possibly get, and a new striker could well be a priority in the January transfer window.
The two London rivals have both been linked with a number of forwards already, and Oliveira is the latest name on the list.
Tottenham and West Ham want to sign Vitor ‘Vitinha’ Oliveira
Oliveira, popularly known as Vitinha in Portugal, is a fine prospect. The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in just four starts in all competitions this term, which is a sensational return for someone so young.
Vitinha made the headlines on Saturday when Braga faced Santa Clara in the Taca de Portugal. Braga won the game 6-0, and the young striker scored each of his side’s first four goals.
That seems to have alerted foreign clubs who are looking for a new number nine. The youngster certainly has the potential to succeed at the top level, but is he really ready for a move to the Premier League?
Vitinha is one of the brightest young talents in Portugal at the moment. The 21-year-old averages a goal every 61 minutes in all competitions this term, which is a better record than Mohamed Salah, Kylian Mbappe and even Erling Haaland.
However, he is only playing in the Liga NOS, which is nowhere near as competitive as the Premier League. That makes him a very risky option for Spurs and West Ham in the January transfer window.
However, if the two London clubs are only looking for a player to eventually succeed their current superstar strikers, Vitinha, based on his age and numbers, may well be worth the risk.
It will be interesting to see if Spurs and West Ham make any move for Vitinha in January. It is unlikely, but the one thing that’s certain is that both sides need a new striker in one of the next two transfer windows.
