Tottenham have reportedly agreed a fee with Ajax over the sale of Steven Bergwijn, with the Netherlands international set to sign for the Dutch giants in the coming days.

According to De Telegraaf, Bergwijn will return to Holland in a €30m (£25m) deal after weeks of speculation over the attacker’s future, with Ajax linked with the former PSV star for most of the summer, with the Eredivisie champions finally reaching an agreement to sign the Tottenham forward.

Bergwijn only joined Tottenham in January 2020 as one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings as manager of the north London club, with the winger making 83 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring a disappointing eight goals since moving to the Premier League.

Signed for a reported £27m, Tottenham will not make that huge of a loss on the 24-year-old, with Antonio Conte seemingly keen on cutting his losses with Bergwijn and just working on getting the forward out of the door to make room for more signings.

Spurs have already signed Richarlison this summer from Everton, and reports suggest that Conte is far from done with the spending this transfer window, with Djed Spence and Clement Lenglet also reportedly set to sign for Tottenham in the coming days.

Indeed, Tottenham have been busy this summer trying to overhaul their squad, and the sale of Bergwijn seems to be the latest piece of the puzzle as Ajax near the £25m signing of the Dutch international, who could be an exceptional addition for the European giants.

Bergwijn’s time at Tottenham didn’t go to plan, yet Spurs managing to offload the Ajax-bound signing for a decent fee is the perfect outcome for all parties involved, with the winger likely to regain his form that made him such a prized asset during his PSV days.

With Ajax set to challenge for the Dutch title again and make a mark in Europe, Bergwijn will become a key player for the Amsterdam-based side next season, with Tottenham set to move away from the 24-year-old.
