Report: Tottenham will sign 'exceptional' player this week as well as Lenglet, £20m fee all but agreed
Tottenham are edging closer to some more transfer incomings and are expected to complete a deal to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough this week.
Spurs are close to signing another defender in Barcelona man, Clement Lenglet. But the summer long pursuit of Spence is one that a lot of Tottenham fans have been waiting to get done, with negotiations over the price yet to be completed.
However, The Evening Standard has reported today that Tottenham are hopeful of completing a deal for Spence later this week, with the eventual fee set to be around the £20m mark. That would represent the sort of fee Boro are after for their right-back, who played a starring role for Nottingham Forest last season.
Tottenham have been one of the most active teams in the market this summer already. Fabio Paratici has worked hard to get deals over the line and has been rewarded with landing players like Richarlison and Yves Bissouma.
The ‘exceptional‘ Spence is expected to challenge Mat Doherty for the first-choice right wing-back slot. That could also see Emerson Royal leave the club, just a year after he arrived.
TBR’s View: Spence To Tottenham A Matter Of Time
There was no way Tottenham weren’t going to get this one done. Even though the fee has been an issue, Spurs aren’t going to pass up the chance to sign Spence for the sake of haggling over a few million.
Spence will fit in nicely with Tottenham. His explosive playing style down the wing will fit nicely into how Conte wants to play, and he’ll improve under the Italian as well you’d imagine.
For Tottenham fans, this is one of the best summers in years. The players added are all top players who bring something to the cause, and Spence is certainly a good signing.
