South American expert Tim Vickery has told TalkSPORT that Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso holds the key to signing Lautaro Martinez. The Inter Milan hotshot has been linked with both Spurs and Arsenal this summer. Now, Lo Celso’s Copa America displays could convince Martinez.

Lo Celso, 25, has endured a difficult spell at Tottenham since initially joining the club on loan from Real Betis. The Argentina international has been in and out with injury, struggling to gain any momentum. His best bout of form came under Jose Mourinho during the gaffer’s first campaign.

But at Copa America, the ex-PSG man was excellent. Combining well with new PSG signing Lionel Messi, Vickery believes that that combination could convince Martinez. 90Min say both Arsenal and Tottenham want Martinez – days after The Times said Spurs had agreed a club-record £60million fee.

“He is a very, very classy striker indeed and it looks like there’s a tug of war between Arsenal and Tottenham,” Vickery said. “Lo Celso might tip the balance in Tottenham’s way. He had a great Copa America, his little partnership with [Lionel] Messi was wonderful and he’s a great supply line.

“So it could be that his presence in the Tottenham line-up just might make Lautaro Martinez feel that if he does go there he’s got someone making the bullets for him to fire,” Vickery continued while on TalkSPORT.

Lo Celso must get on the phone as Tottenham, Arsenal eye Martinez

At the end of last season, with reports circulating about Harry Kane – Tottenham fans would have been dreaming to be in this scenario. To still have Kane at Spurs just a few days before the Premier League opener. But to also be linked with one of Europe’s best strikers.

Having helped Inter win Serie A with 19 goals and 11 assists in 48 games, Martinez is clearly one of Europe’s hottest properties. So, for Tottenham to have a real chance of getting him is very encouraging. If Lo Celso has any sense, he will be on the phone to Martinez, constantly urging him to join.
