Report: Title-winners in talks with representatives of 'fantastic' Arsenal man

The representatives of Arsenal defender Cedric Soares and Nelson Semedo of Wolves are amongst those in talks with Atletico Madrid as they search for a new right-back in the January window, according to a report from ESPN.

Atletico sold Kieran Trippier to Newcastle this month. And with that, they have drawn up a list of candidates to potentially replace the England international.

ESPN reports that Cedric and Semedo have been joined by Cesar Azpilicueta and Daniel Wass on the wishlist. And Atleti are holding conversations with the agents of all four players.

Arsenal however, are apparently reluctant to lose Cedric. But Atletico making an offer may change their stance.

Semedo meanwhile, cost Wolves £37 million, according to ESPN. And they are unlikely to let the Portuguese leave this month.

Arsenal should welcome interest in Cedric Soares as Atletico Madrid keep options open

Cedric is clearly a player Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta trusts. He has tended to come in whenever Takehiro Tomiyasu is unavailable or being rested. And some of his performances have been reasonably good. Gilberto Silva once labelled the former Southampton man ‘fantastic‘ after one display.

However, he is some way behind the Japanese in the pecking order. Tomiyasu has proved to be an inspired signing. And it is hard to imagine Cedric forcing his way back into the side on a regular basis.

Arsenal have other options, too. Calum Chambers looks to be next in line when fit. Meanwhile, Ben White was excellent in that role when the Gunners beat Norwich. And Nuno Tavares can also play on the right.

Arsenal have to strengthen in a couple of areas this month. So if Atletico are prepared to make an offer, surely the Gunners have to be ready to let Cedric leave.
