Arsenal fans discuss Ben White display against Norwich

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the performance of Ben White after the defender filled in at right-back against Norwich City on Boxing Day.

Mikel Arteta was given a problem on the right of the defence ahead of the trip to Carrow Road. The likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soares, Calum Chambers and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were all unavailable.

Nuno Tavares got the nod in our predicted lineup. However, Arteta opted for White. And – in one of the least surprising turn of events of the season – the Spaniard proved that he knows more than this particular writer.

White was outstanding in the 5-0 victory given that he was deployed out of position. The 24-year-old has already proved that he is a superb partner for Gabriel Magalhaes. But he has shown that he has other strings to his bow.

As shown by Whoscored, he won five aerial duels. No player on either side could match that tally. Meanwhile, he also topped the Arsenal charts for tackles won and interceptions.

Like a few others, White had plenty to prove when he arrived at the Emirates in the summer. He came in for a significant fee off the back of one – admittedly, very impressive – year in the Premier League.

But he looks to be well on his way to justifying that fee. He has been brilliant throughout his spell with Arsenal. And plenty of Gunners fans were left lauding his display at right-back on Sunday.

Some insisted that Tomiyasu was not missed. They could certainly see him filling in there more often in the future.
