Report: 'Talented' 25-year-old is now just waiting for Leeds United to come and sign him on deadline day

Leeds United could have a very active deadline day with incomings and outgoings potentially on the cards.

Jesse Marsch has spoken about Leeds’ chance of signing a striker this summer.

However, the other position Leeds have targeted is left-back, and the Daily Mail offer an update on this.

The report suggests that Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner is waiting for a call from Leeds.

Leeds have been monitoring Wagner throughout the transfer window.

Leeds only have one natural left-back in the squad in Brazilian Junior Firpo.

However, Firpo picked up an injury at the start of pre-season and has been unavailable ever since.

Marsch has deployed Patrick Struijk at left-back, and has worked with the 22-year-old to get him up to speed in his new position.

It does mean that there’s a spot available for a new signing to step into the team, and Wagner hopes that will be him.

Wagner waiting for Leeds call

It’s no surprise Wagner is hoping Leeds make a deadline day decision to bring him to Elland Road.

Wagner has never played a top-flight match in Europe, and joining Leeds would be a huge step up.

The 25-year-old full-back has previously played with new signing Brenden Aaronson.

Aaronson could certainly help Wagner settle in, but would need plenty of time to adapt to the challenges of Premier League football.

The German has been an ever-present for his MLS side this season, recording six assists in 29 appearances.

He’s been linked with moves away from Philadelphia before, because he’s ‘that talented’ at left-back.

That’s according to his coach Jim Curtin, who will be hoping Wagner doesn’t go anywhere today.

If Leeds were going to sign Wagner, they’ve had plenty of opportunities to do so in this window.

But Wagner will still be hoping a last-minute call will come in today to bring him to the Premier League.
