'They are monitoring this boy': Romano claims Leeds eyeing one of Aaronson's former teammates

Leeds United are monitoring Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer insider also told Que Golazo that the Whites are “always keeping an eye on American names and talent”.

However, Romano did also stress that as far as Leeds’ pursuit of Wagner goes, “nothing is advanced”.

He also claimed that Jesse Marsch is “really happy” with the Whites squad as it stands.

Leeds have enjoyed a fruitful summer on the transfer front, bringing in seven new signings.

However, the Whites are currently light at left-back, with Junior Firpo on the sidelines.

Marsch has utilised Pascal Struijk in that position in Leeds’ first two Premier League games of the season.

Last week, football reporter Manuel Veth took to Twitter to claim that Leeds are eyeing Wagner.

The Daily Mail also commented on the Elland Road side’s apparent interest in the German defender.

They claimed that Leeds are ‘weighing up a move’ for Wagner and believe they can sign him for just £2.5million.

‘Only if they have outgoings’

Romano, speaking on Que Golazo, said: “He [Wagner] is one of the names they are monitoring.

“We know that Leeds are always keeping an eye on American players and talent, so they are monitoring this boy.

“But at the moment, still nothing is advanced, nothing imminent.

“Also, Leeds are really happy with the team they have. So, I think they will sign players only if they have outgoings.”

‘One of the most sought-after players in the MLS’

Wagner ‘has been one of the most consistent performers in MLS’, as per the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, The Sun have described the 25-year-old as ‘one of the most sought-after players in the MLS’.

Wagner joined Union from Wurzburger Kickers in 2019 and has made 116 appearances for the American outfit.

He has scored four goals and registered an impressive 17 assists for his club.

Wagner also lifted the Supporters Shield with Union in 2019-20 alongside Brenden Aaronson.

The two players know each other well, having shared a pitch 43 times as teammates.
