Report: Spurs want Jonas Hofmann

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the Premier League sides interested in signing Jonas Hofmann, but Kicker reports that Chelsea also want the winger.

Hofmann goes into this summer off the back of a brilliant campaign with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 28-year-old scored eight goals and contributed 13 assists in all competitions. Just three players bettered his tally of 11 assists in the German top flight.

And it now appears that he could soon be on the move to England.

According to Kicker, Spurs and Chelsea are both interested in signing the Germany international. They could also face competition from La Liga sides for the wide-man.

The report notes that Hofmann’s contract does not include a release clause. However, he is about to enter the final two years of his deal.

Hofmann not the only Monchengladbach star on Spurs radar

Tottenham appear to be extremely impressed by what Marco Rose’s men have achieved this past season.

Sport Bild reported earlier this month that Spurs have already made a bid for centre-back Matthias Ginter, who is also being pursued by Liverpool.

Domestically, Gladbach did not have the best year. They finished eighth in the Bundesliga, outside of the European spots.

Rose meanwhile, is set to join Hofmann’s former club Borussia Dortmund this summer.

But they did enjoy an impressive run in the Champions League. They reached the knockout stages before being beaten by finalists Manchester City.

It does appear that the incoming Spurs boss will need to strengthen their options at centre-back and out wide.

Hofmann’s age may be a concern to some supporters. He turns 29 in July.

But he has enjoyed one of the most prolific years of his career. And he has scored 18 goals across the last three seasons.

So there is every reason to believe that he is still, very much, at his peak.
