Report: Spurs to listen to Matt Doherty offers
Spurs are believed to be willing to listen to offers for Matt Doherty on the final day of the transfer window, according to a report from Football London.
Doherty has endured a tough time since moving to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer.
He struggled to recapture his best form from his time at Wolves.
Having said that, it appeared that he may have received a boost in his bid to turn his fortunes around in North London.
Former boss Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed earlier in the summer. Obviously, the pair enjoyed a lot of success together at Molineux.
But the early signs have not been particularly promising.
Japhet Tanganga has been first choice in the opening weeks of the new campaign. And reports have suggested that they are working on a deadline day deal for Emerson Royal.
Serge Aurier is reportedly available. In fact, it has been claimed in Spain that talks with Real Betis are underway.
But Football London has suggested that the Republic of Ireland international is also available. They claim that Spurs are believed to be willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old.
Matt Doherty will surely hope to attract offer if Spurs sign Emerson
Doherty – who earns around £66,000-a-week – would surely love to prove his doubters wrong at Spurs. However, the writing may well be on the wall should Emerson arrive in the coming hours.
Tanganga is already ahead of him in the pecking order. And Emerson could push him further down the list.
A move for Doherty must appeal to a club somewhere. He offers a lot going forward. And in the right system, he could be a fantastic addition.
It has not worked out at Spurs so far. But he will back himself to get back on track should he head elsewhere.
